This article is addressed to those who wish to try their strength, and the capabilities of their horses competing in eventing. It was Rules-based International showjumping equestrian Federation, recommendations of the British Association of Triathlon for novice riders and personal

experience. I would like to start with a General overview of the sport, including dressage, cross country and show jumping. You are given recommendations and General tips, what to expect from the competition. In addition, we will offer General instruction of how to better prepare for and perform warm-up at each phase of the competition, how to dress, and how to comply with security measures.

What is eventing?

Triathlon is a test for the rider and the horse, consisting of three phases: dressage, field trials and show jumping. Also sine qua non of competition in eventing – as in other equestrian sports are veterinary tests. Depending on the type of competition (one-day or three-day) number of brood can vary from one to three.

Dressage

Dressage on any type of competitions in triathlon – the first form of the test, during which is determined by how well trained the horse is, and how she is ready to submit to the demands of the rider. Quite reasonably, this type of test in eventing is called “dressage” and not “dressage”, as the latter, as a separate type of equestrian sport, has a higher level of complexity. Special attention should be paid to adequate preservation, if possible, constancy of rhythm and tempo in trot and canter. Very important role is played by the obedience of the horse to the action of control means for the rider, the lack of resistance. Appreciated also the correctness of the decree and the straightness of the horse during straight-ahead driving, which is an additional evidence of its submission. Momentum should lead to the creation of a stable head position on each type of allure (working, medium and extended), which is an important characteristic of easy making. In parallel with the pulse should be “lengthening” of the whole body (frame) in the transition from a working gait to secondary and added, accompanied by the appropriate change in the position of the neck (front-lower) and the head (the nose goes slightly forward)

Field trials

In the three-day competition and second main type are field tests (in the order of the day the competition and field tests is determined by the Organizing Committee of the competition). The essence of this type – test of endurance, agility eventing horses, her ability to jump in the field. Of course, this test is the most interesting and entertaining. Classic eventing field trials consist of four independent segments (phases): first roads (usually they are held at a trot or a quiet canter), steeple-Chas (high speed cut), main roads (usually step and trot) and of the most exciting cut – cross. In one-day competitions of the second and third cut are missing, and the first is included in the program of competitions at the discretion of the organizers. It should be noted that the distance in one-day competitions significantly less for the same speed of movement. Since 2005, the international Federation of equestrian sport also introduces a new type, the so-called “short format”, which will be held all the Championships and the Olympics. It differs from the classical one only by the absence of a steeple-Chas and second roads. Distance, speed, elevation and procedure is fully consistent with full-length three-day competition.

Jumping

The third type of tests in eventing – show jumping. Its main purpose was to prove that after the harsh field testing the horse retained the energy, flexibility and potcinjenost. Generally, this type of program determines the final distribution of seats in the competition. The main difference from the “pure” jumping the difference in heights of obstacles. In General is carried out in accordance with the Rules of show jumping.

Veterinary tests

For horses and athletes veterinary tests and inspections – the admission to participation in the competition or their continuation based on the physical condition of the horse. However litter is not only indispensable, but also a kind of “show” for the spectators. The horse must be displayed “in the hands” only by the rider. It should provide well-brushed, well-groomed and combed mane and tail. Welcome braided mane. If the horse is lame or because of the lack of her physical condition, you may not be allowed to participate in competitions or to subsequent stages.
